News Insolvency Practitioner Licence Renewals

06 October 2025

For insolvency practitioners who were licensed when the Insolvency Practitioners Regulation Act 2019 came into effect on 1 September 2020, the five-year renewal period is now approaching.

The Insolvency Practitioners Regulation Act 2019 (the Act) introduced a co-regulatory licensing scheme to promote quality, expertise, and integrity in the profession of insolvency practitioners.

The Act took effect on 1 September 2020.

As we move into the renewal period for many of our members, those who are Licensed Insolvency Practitioners will be required to reapply for their licence. Please note that the renewal process is not automatic - practitioners must complete an application as if applying for the first time

Who Manages the Licensing Process?

The licensing process is administered entirely by NZICA, the New Zealand arm of Chartered Accountants Australia and New Zealand (CA ANZ).

What You Need to Do:

We encourage all practitioners to begin the process early to ensure timely renewal and continued compliance with the Act.
