Auckland Networking Event – Aug 2020
August 12 @ 4:30 pm - 6:30 pm
Restructuring retailers (and what’s happening in retail)
Retail has been one of the sectors most directly impacted by Covid-19, with a total loss of in-store revenue during the lockdown and supply chain challenges. In this presentation, Conor will look at what was happening to retail before, during and after the lockdown, protections for retailers, negotiating with stakeholders, and applying the restructuring tools available under the Companies Act.
Conor McElhinney, McGrathNicol
Conor is an advisory and restructuring Partner at McGrathNicol who helps companies through periods of change and to optimise their performance. Most often that change is brought about by financial distress or a transaction, and more recently by Covid-19. Conor has acted on many of New Zealand’s largest retail insolvencies, including Ziera Shoes, Top Shop, Pumpkin Patch, Wild Pair, Valleygirl and many others. He has also assisted many more retailers to restructure their businesses, improving performance to preserve iconic Kiwi brands such as the recent compromise of Max Fashions. Conor’s passion for retail developed over his five years in London during the GFC, where he worked with many retailers, including coordinating the 2011 debt restructuring of Thomas Cook Plc, previously Europe’s second largest travel operator with a turnover of £9bn and 35,000 employees until its final collapse in September 2019.
